The Admiral McHardy Way was created in 1990 to commemorate 150 years of the Essex Police Force. Admiral McHardy founded the force in 1840, following the 1839 County Police Act, and was its first Chief Constable. The course covers both river valley and hilly wooded terrain and is mostly on well trodden tracks.
