British Trail Running Championships

The Trail Running Association is responsible for the selection and promotion of the British Trail Running Championships, working directly British Athletics.

The Championships are held annually over three distances:

Short: Races up to 45km
Middle: Races between 45km and 90km
Long: Races over 90km

Short Distance
Forest of Dean Half Marathon
24th March 2024
An annual event is organised by The Rotary Club of the Royal Forest of Dean and supported by the Forestry Commission.

Middle Distance

Lakes Mountain 40
15th April 2024

Starting from Askham, LM40 will take in the summits of Loadpot, High Street, Helvellyn and Place Fell, giving a figure eight route with Patterdale in the centre.

Ultra Distance

Ridgeway 86
31st August 2024

The course is 86 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon to Avebury Stones along the length of the Ridgeway National Trail.

Grants & Award

First, second and third place in both the womens and mens events will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze British Athletics Medals.

Age Group prizes are awarded in five year categories from V35 all the way up to V80+.

Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded when there are 8 or more runners in an age category. Gold and silver medals are awarded when there are between 4 and 7 runners. If there are under 4 runners in an age category then only a Gold medal will be awarded.

Grants are available to the first male and female runners in each of the championship races who are TRA members at the time of the event.
